This week we hear from one of our great fans, Andru, from Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Enjoy!
Name: Andru McCusker
Hometown: Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Occupation: Sales Representative.
Question: How many times have you visited Pocono Raceway?
Answer: 12 Times.
Question: What is your funniest story at Pocono Raceway?
Answer: Pocono is all about family, friends, and tradition. Pocono Raceway is my home track and the first race I had ever been to. I’ve been going there since 2006 and have only missed a couple of races here and there. I have also been to Watkins Glen, Dover, Richmond, Charlotte, Martinsville, and Bristol, but nothing feels more like home than Pocono does. There is no such thing as a bad day at the track. My favorite Pocono moment of all time was when Dale Earnhardt Jr. won the 2014 Pocono 400 in June. It was two days after I graduated high school. I got to be on Dale Jr’s show and got garage passes for the next race, which he went on to win again, one of the happiest moments of my life. Going there every year feels like a holiday. I’d love to get the opportunity to run a couple laps around the track and hopefully work there someday!
Question: How/when did you get interested in racing?
Answer: I never got into football or basketball. I needed a helmet for riding my bike and I picked a red one with a number 8 on it. At the time I had no clue who Dale Jr. was. One Saturday, I was clicking through the channels and saw NASCAR was on and I saw the big red number 8 car. About four hours later Dale Jr won the 2006 Crown Royal 400 at Richmond, I was instantly hooked.
Question: What is some advice you would like to give to possible first time Pocono Raceway fans?
Answer: Always bring a canopy, always bring beer, and don’t rush out of there. Grill for a couple of hours after the race, enjoy your day! No need to rush back to the real world!
Question: What driver would you like to meet and why?
Answer: I gave Dale Jr. a high five but never got to talk to him. So I’d love to meet Dale and probably Clint Bowyer.
Question: What is one cool fact or talent about yourself you would like to share?
Answer: I know a ton of NASCAR stats and I can sing.
