We have long said we have the best fans in motorsports at Pocono Raceway and we will occasionally utilize this space to share their stories in our Fan Spotlight.
NAME: Brandon
HOMETOWN: Berwick, PA
FAMILY, KIDS & PETS: Twins, Kyler and Paige, 14; Luke, 11; Wife, Gwen; Lexi, female cane corso
FAVORITE DRIVER: Martin Truex Jr.
FUNNIEST TRACK STORY: I have many funny memories but one thing that comes to mind is hanging out and having a few drinks with a very hairy version of Pamela Anderson from Baywatch.
MOST MEMORABLE TRACK STORY: It has to be the first time my wife and I camped there. I came home with a beat up 13 foot camper someone had in their field and said we are camping at Pocono this year (she was not thrilled). Saturday night it got cold and rained very hard so we were stuck in this tiny camper watching movies but had so much fun laughing at ourselves. Three kids and three campers later we can’t wait until we get there. My wife was never a NASCAR fan before we went to Pocono, now she knows the drivers, watches the races at home and looks forward to our trips to ‘The Tricky Triangle’ twice a year.
HOW MANY RACES HAVE YOU BEEN TO: Every NASCAR race at Pocono Raceway since ‘91 or ’92. Plus other tracks it has to 100+ races. This year I will be going to the INDY 500 then to Dover the following week and then camping at both Pocono NASCAR races and the Pocono INDYCAR race so I have a pretty good summer planned.
FAVORITE PART OF POCONO RACEWAY: The atmosphere and the camaraderie
WHEN/HOW/WHY DID YOU GET INTERESTED IN RACING: My first trip to Pocono was with my high school football team on a bus trip. We were given a garage tour and got to go into some of the team haulers. When the race started I quickly realized I was hooked.
ADVICE FOR POCONO RACEWAY FANS: If you don’t already camp at Pocono, you really should make it a priority because Pocono has so much to offer. Not only will you see an exciting race, you can enjoy music, food, vendors, and games in the infield. We have made so many lasting friendships and have had so many incredible memories all because of the camping we’ve done over the years.
FIRST JOB/FIRST CAR: Job: A&A Auto. Car: 1977 Firebird
WHAT DRIVER WOULD YOU LIKE TO MEET AND WHY: Martin Truex Jr. because I admire the success they have had as a single car team and the way he carries himself as a racecar driver. Also, because of the personal hurdles that he has overcome.
