Firestone Indy Test Free for Fans on 4/10

Long Pond, PA  (April 3, 2013) ― The last time an Indy car turned a high-speed lap at Pocono Raceway was during the Quaker State 500 on August 20, 1989. After 8,635 days of inactivity, that’s about to change!  On Wednesday April 10, 2013, Firestone will be conducting a tire test for the IZOD IndyCar® Series at Pocono Raceway and the public is invited to attend this historic test at no charge!

The IZOD IndyCar Series teams of: Andretti Autosport and Nazareth, Pennsylvania’s own Marco Andretti; three time Series Champion Dario Franchitti, Target Chip Ganassi Racing; 2012 Series Rookie of the Year Simon Pagenaud, of Schmidt Hamilton Racing and 2010, 2011 and 2012 Series Championship Runner-up Will Power, Verizon Team Penske are scheduled to participate in the day long test. Results of this test will determine the tires Firestone will provide for the Pocono INDYCAR 400 on July 7, 2013.

The existing track record of 211.715 mph set back in 1989 is sure to be broken during the test. The only question is by how much?

Fans planning on attending should enter the parking lots via Gate # 5 (Andretti Rd.) and will be directed to designated parking areas.  Gate # 11 will open at 9:00 AM and fans will be directed to grandstand seating areas near the Start/Finish line. Concession stands will not be open, so those attending should consider bringing a cooler with food and drink.

Sorry, the test was a “closed” Firestone test and they only allowed us to open our Grandstand to fans.
