What’s up Pocono Raceway fans!?!?
First off, welcome to our new and improved website. Thanks for checking out the first of many blogs I’m writing here. I’m a seasoned rookie in the world of stock car racing, with five-plus years of experience working with tracks, teams and agencies in the NASCAR realm. I have primarily done public relations work with the likes of Clint Bowyer, Austin Dillon and Jeff Gordon, but my new gig allows me to interact with the best racing fans out there, the Pocono Posse! I’m pumped to be back at my home track, where my racing career started five years ago.
It’s an exciting time of year for all of us at Pocono because we’re only 10 weeks away from welcoming stock car racing back to our Long Pond track. We’re out and about spreading the word about what our track has to offer. We’ve kicked our Facebook and Twitter pages into full race mode, increasing our followers and getting more interactive with you all. Many people still see this track as living in the past, but that’s far from the truth!
So, what’s been going on here in the off-season? Well, a new safer barrier has been installed on the inside of the Long Pond and North Straightaways, as well as, the addition of a catchfence on the outside wall. These safety improvements will benefit drivers if they’re wrapped up in a wreck back there. Additionally, the pit road suites, on either side of our Victory Lane Tower, are in the process of being torn down.
Like I said before, our social networking efforts are also in full swing. We love hearing from all of our Pocono Posse members. You might be asking yourself, what is the Pocono Posse? It’s the nickname for all of our Facebook (PoconoRaceway) and Twitter ( @PoconoRaceway) followers. Over 1,700 fans voted on the name and our next step is to revamp our Pocono Posse logo.
Our Facebook and Twitter accounts now have over 15,000 combined followers and have become our eyes and ears to hear from them all. Additionally, those two pages are where we play Tricky Triangle Trivia and give lucky winners tickets to the upcoming NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races here. The questions are usually ‘tricky,’ but no more difficult than what race teams deal with on our distinct racing triangle. You can also find even more behind-the-scene content and photos there. We hope to add videos in the near future to give even more inside access.
Weather has been a little grueling here in the Pocono Mountains region. Snow continues to fall and remains on some of our infield. Didn’t the groundhog see his shadow? Where is the spring weather? It hasn’t stopped us from pushing forward and getting the track race ready. Our official opening weekend is quickly approaching as several car clubs will use the track for their own private members. Another thing we’re looking forward to is welcoming back the Stock Car Racing Experience. Have you ever wanted to spin the wheels of a real stock car at 160-plus miles-per-hour? Those folks are the people to go to if you want to jump behind the wheel here at the Tricky Triangle.
We are hoping to make this one of the best racing seasons ever and we know, with the great fans that come out each year, 2011 could the best year yet! We are looking forward to welcoming you all back here in less than 65 days, but in the meantime, we hope this blog can be your source for all happenings at Pocono Raceway. My future blogs will detail some special events and, basically, feature items that you generate. I would love to hear from you. Either Posse up on Facebook/Twitter or shoot me an email over at poconoposse@poconoraceway.com.
