CONCORD, N.C. (Jan. 11, 2017) – Pocono Raceway was presented with the Innovation Award, Tuesday during the annual NASCAR Summit presented by American Medical Response.
The three-day summit, which featured more than 30 general and discipline-specific breakout sessions that addressed topics ranging from weather contingency planning to incident scene management, concluded with track services, medical and security awards.
Pocono Raceway took home the Track Services Innovation Award which is presented annually to the individual or group that displays the ability to create or adapt tools, processes or solutions that address a problem/concern shared by multiple tracks.
Faced with the adversity of rain and postponements in every major event weekend, Pocono Raceway management and staff worked through staffing issues and with surrounding tracks to create a foundation for a form of mutual aid agreements for the region. It is this forward thinking, working out of the ordinary operations to execute a successful weekend event.
“We know we have a great staff, a staff that can handle adversity, a staff that puts safety first and a staff that is working extremely hard to create exciting experiences and lifelong memories and it’s always a tremendous point of pride when others recognize that,” said Pocono Raceway President & CEO Brandon Igdalsky.
Pocono Raceway Vice President/Track Superintendent George Ewald, Senior Director of Facility Operations Kevin Henry, Fire Chief Dave Richards and Operations Administrative Assistant Starr Warner were on hand to collect the award.
This marked the second consecutive year Pocono Raceway was honored. Last year, Ewald was chosen for the Excellence In Track Services Award for career contributions in the areas of track services.
