Long Pond, PA (June 21, 2011) – After coming off a great race weekend in Northeastern Pennsylvania, Pocono Raceway is already pushing fans to support a great military charity in preparation for the second NASCAR race weekend at the Tricky Triangle. Pocono Raceway, in partnership with Goddess Greetings and the Armed Forces Foundation, presents a collection of greeting cards like no other to encourage fans to join them in supporting our troops.
Between now and July 31, 2011, fans who purchase from the special Pocono military collection will not only be supporting Pocono’s efforts in bringing troops to the track during its Pennsylvania 500 race weekend on August 5-7, 2011, but also in donating proceeds from each purchase to The Armed Forces Foundation.
The Armed Forces Foundation launched its “Troops to the Track” program this year that will provide over 100 wounded service members, or service members in jobs that are particularly emotionally and physically demanding, an opportunity to get away from the challenges they face each day with an exclusive, VIP-style NASCAR race day experience. They hope to grow to extend the program to more service men and women in 2012.
“Our troops make sacrifices to serve our country that many Americans will never know. Sometimes it’s the smallest token of thanks that gives encouragement to them in those times of being away from their families,” says Patricia Driscoll, president of the Armed Forces Foundation. “Our troops make sacrifices to serve our country that many Americans will never know. Sometimes it’s the smallest token of thanks that gives encouragement to those serving far from home and family.”
All cards are made in the USA on recycled paper and come with a fabric-woven keepsake that service members can carry with them at all times to remind them of their loved ones back home. Goddess Greetings introduced the cards and adjoining prints at Pocono Raceway this past weekend but race fans nationwide can find the collection from the Pocono Raceway website, www.poconoraceway.com, throughout the summer.
“Because of our connection on a personal level with the military, it was very important for us to create a Heroes collection first as we have always felt there was a void in the greeting card industry in thanking our heroes,” said Heather Paige, co-owner of Goddess Greetings. “We are thrilled to team up with Pocono Raceway as their history in supporting the troops goes back far beyond my memory in growing up in central Pennsylvania. They have always been there for the troops and we couldn’t be more proud to donate proceeds to the Armed Forces Foundation.”
“I think we all have family members who are somehow connected to the military and our goal was to create cards specific to military moms and dads, sons and daughters, and even honoring our fallen soldiers,” says Victoria Raine, co-owner of Goddess Greetings. “When we heard Pocono was welcoming home our heroes, we felt truly blessed to play a small role in helping that happen and benefit a worthy military foundation at the same time.
The selected program cards and prints are among the most popular of the entire collection and they can also be purchased through the Goddess Greetings web site, www.goddessgreetings.com or as linked through the web site of the Armed Forces Foundation, www.armedforcesfoundation.org.
As a part of Pocono Raceway’s larger Welcome Home theme, fans that place an order of just a few cards or prints will be honored as a patriot in the Pennsylvania 500 race program who took part to help Pocono bring service member to the track. “Pocono is excited to get the fans involved in helping us welcome home the troops,” said Brandon Igdalsky, President. of Pocono Raceway. “It is our distinct honor to participate in this important program.”

About The Armed Forces Foundation
The Armed Forces Foundation offers vital assistance to active-duty and retired personnel, National Guard, Reserve Components and military families as they cope with difficult circumstances. When a service member sustains combat injuries overseas, they and their family face a long, difficult road to recovery. The moment a soldier arrives at the hospital, the Armed Forces Foundation steps in to assist the family in traveling to his or her side and provides lodging for them to remain there. The foundation provides financial assistance, supplementing income while the family waits. All along the way we provide other opportunities as well, sponsoring military family events and Christmas toy drives. The Armed Forces Foundation lives by the motto “Serving those who serve,” and, recognizing that families serve too, seeks to provide a well-rounded program of assistance and support for the military family unit.
