Pocono Raceway Forms Multi-Year Partnership with FullCircle Ventures
LONG POND, Pa., (Aug. 6, 2011) – Pocono Raceway, site of Sunday’s Good Sam RV Insurance 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, has formed a multi-year agreement with FullCircle Ventures, LLC to represent the track in marketing its assets and creating corporate partnerships.
Known as the “Tricky Triangle” for its triangular 2.5-mile layout, Pocono Raceway is just 90 miles from New York and Philadelphia. FullCircle will aggressively promote the track’s close proximity to the nation’s No. 1 and No. 4 television markets, focusing on corporate sponsorship, race entitlement, suite sales and trackside marketing, while also identifying and developing new entertainment opportunities for the track that annually hosts two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races, one NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race and two ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards events.
“We have a tremendous amount of respect for what the Mattioli Family has built over the last 40 years with Pocono Raceway,” said Jay Schulthess, general partner, FullCircle Ventures. “The track has had, and continues to have, strong and consistent family leadership, which provides an excellent opportunity for FullCircle to showcase Pocono Raceway as a consumer-oriented, family destination.”
“We’re thrilled to have FullCircle Ventures join the Pocono Raceway family as we move into the future of motorsports here in the Pocono Mountains,” said Brandon Igdalsky, president and CEO, Pocono Raceway, and grandson of track founders Drs. Rose and Joe Mattioli. “We’re confident their assistance will bring new partners to our historic track.”
Since opening its gates in 1971, Pocono Raceway has hosted NASCAR races and numerous open-wheel events. Its shape was designed by two-time Indianapolis 500 champion Rodger Ward, and it has three distinct corners that were each modeled after a different track. Turn one, which is banked at 14 degrees, is modeled after the now-closed Trenton (N.J.) Speedway. Turn two, banked at eight degrees, is a nod to the turns at Indianapolis. And turn three, banked at six degrees, is modeled after the corners at The Milwaukee Mile in West Allis, Wis.
Cutting-edge at its inception, the track has reinvented itself of late – on the track and off.
It features the StockCar Racing Experience, offering fan packages that range from a three-lap ride-along program to an 80-lap driving experience. And from its strong social networking presence to the implementation of SAFER Barriers and new catchfencing all around the 2.5-mile triangle, Pocono Raceway has continued to renovate well after building new competitor garages, a media center and infield care center in 1999.
But it’s the track’s most recent upgrade that has set it apart from its counterparts.
In August 2010, Pocono Raceway opened a 25-acre solar farm capable of producing 3-4 million megawatts of electricity per year. The solar farm allows the track to be totally self-sustaining from an energy perspective, while also providing additional electricity to the local grid – a claim no other racing facility in the country can make. In fact, Pocono Raceway is the largest renewable energy project in the state of Pennsylvania.
“Beyond having two very coveted NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races that also feature companion events with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards, Pocono Raceway has firmly positioned itself as a leader in green technologies,” Schulthess said. “Being environmentally responsible isn’t just a slogan – it’s a way of doing business. Pocono Raceway has set the standard among motorsports properties in green initiatives, and FullCircle Ventures sees great opportunities to align like-minded brands with such a venerable, yet, cutting-edge facility.”
